Fab

What is a Fab?

A fab (fabrication plant) is a production facility, also known as a semiconductor or chip factory, in which raw silicon wafers are produced into integrated circuits (IC) for the semiconductor, microelectronics and solar industries.

The surface of the wafers (e.g. silicon carbide wafers/SiC wafers, glass wafers) is further processed in a clean room. In order to avoid dust and vibrations and to keep the temperature and humidity within a certain narrow range, a semiconductor factory and solar cell factory is always equipped with a clean room.

Where are the RENA Technologies systems installed?

RENA's wet benches are integrated fully automatically, semi-automatically or manually into the fab. Depending on requirements, RENA Technologies manufactures batch, single wafer and spray systems for wet chemical etching, cleaning and stripping of wafers. The surface treatment systems are designed to process a wide range of semiconductor materials, including silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC), gallium nitride (GaN), gallium arsenide (GaAs) and indium phosphide (InP).

RENA wet process solutions are characterized by precise process control, high throughput and a small footprint. The footprint in the cleanroom is an enormous criterion when planning a fab.
